The island of myth from the time of Emperors Augustus and Tiberius, who built 12 villas on it. A dream destination for any who visits the Campania region.
Boat tours to the island are available with departure from Naples and other towns in the province.
What to visit
The living core of Capri is undoubtedly the piazzetta, located in the center of town and oftentimes called "the lounge of the world": in this small square filled with chairs and bar tables one can see famous actors, millionaires, common folk and even aristocracy sitting down for coffee or a drink. It's very difficult not to sit here for half an hour and enjoy this human show.
For a splendid panoramic view of the island one can visit the Augustus Gardens, where greenery and colourful flowers meet the blue sea. The scenery from these terraces is among the most characteristic in Campania, reaching the marine peaks of the Faraglioni.
Capri is also home to the most famous and enchanting island of the world: the Blue Grotto, only accessible via small boats. Inside, the cave's darkness creates a breathtaking contrast with the plays of light that turn the water an otherwordly blue shade.
How to get there
Ferry boats and hydrofoils for Capri depart mainly from Naples and Sorrento. From april to october, boats also run from Ischia, Salerno, Amalfi and Positano.
