Pompeii, eternal beauty

The renowned city buried by the ashes of Vesuvius in 79 AD deserves a visit by anyone stopping in the province of Naples.

In contrast with the smaller town of ancient Herculaneum, Pompeii was a large and bustling city of of trade and commerce exporting oil and wine in the Mediterranean. Today it is still possibile to visit its market, the stores and workshops that nearly two thousands years ago buzzed with activity.

What to visit

It would be redundant to talk more about the Archeological Site, the main reason to see the city for many; Pompeii does hide one more incredible treasure though: the Shrine of the Blessed Virgin, a marvelous and imposing cathedral that is a pilgrimage destination for a great many worshippers and one of the most visited places of faith in the whole of Italy. Enshrined inside one can find the painting of the Lady of the Rosary, attracting thousands of faithful and said to have bestowed several miracles.

How to get there

Via car: travel on highway A3 Napoli-Salerno and exit at Pompei ovest,

With public transportation: to reach the archeological area use the EAV Circumvesuviana Napoli-Sorrento railway and get off at Pompei Scavi-Villa dei Misteri; to reach the shrine use the EAV Circumvesuviana Napoli-Poggiomarino (via Scafati) railway and get off at Pompei Santuario.
